The plot thickens for Panathinaikos’ Spahic sweep

By: Peter Katsiris | January 13th, 2009

Panathinaikos’ bid to secure Emir Spahic this winter may have been dented, as the player has left Athens for Russia to negotiate a potential deal with capital club Lokomotiv Moscow. While the target himself has left the Greek capital, Spahic’s agent Dejan Joksimovic has remained in Athens to continue negotiations with the Greek giants.

And while pressure will be on Panathinaikos to revamp their bid for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, it also seems that Panathinaikos has no desires of rushing the deal. Though the ‘Trifylli’ may not feel the need to rush the deal, Spahic’s former employers back in Russia will likely have the upp hand in keeping the player. Currently in their offseason, the Russian side will be hoping to keep one of its backline regulars.
