Recoba out for a month, Choutos sent down

After announcing the departure of their manager, Panionios’ continues to grab headlines for all the wrong reasons. With Ewald Lienen no longer part of the organization that is Panionios, two more members of the ‘Kyanerythri’ face long layoffs from Nea Smyrni – for different reasons of course.
Panionios announced Alvaro Recoba would be unavailable for a month, after an injury will sideline the summer signing for at least one month. With Panionios in a chase to reach one of the few European spots, the injury comes at a crucial time for the Nea Smyrni side.
In somewhat unrelated news, another absence from the squad will be as equally shattering for Panionios. The club announced former Inter Milan and Olympiacos striker, Lambros Choutos, would no longer be part of the first team this year; instead, the 28-year old will be training with Panionios’ youth team.
With such bizarre activity surrounding Nea Smyrni, the announcements made by Panionios are surely leaving supporters of the club scratching their heads. Once a predictable club, the next twist to the Panionios plot is far from being predicted as chairman Georgios Katsifarakis has some jostling to do.
