OFI sack Straka

The writing on the wall finally became reality for Frantisek Straka, as OFI Crete took the steps to sack the Czech boss after just eight weeks into the new Super League season. After announcing the release of Straka, OFI president, Fanouris Vatsinas, announced assistant Pavlos Adamos would take the role as caretaker manager of the Cretan club.
It was expected that the axe would soon come down on Straka. Sitting at the foot of the Greek Super League was definitely not where the Cretans wanted to be, and with a winless start to the season the indications of the remainder of the season didn’t look at all promising for OFI supporters.
With Adamos only holding a temporary spot as manager, the ever so vibrant rumor mill has churned several names as full time replacements. Among the names circling Crete, are Angel Pedraza – recently released by Iraklis – Yiannis Matzourakis, and former Panathinaikos boss Itzhak Shum.
With plenty of speculation surrounding the Irakleio-based club, one thing that is certain is the need for change. A trip to Serres to face Panserraikos on the weekend will be marked as the first step on the road to recovery, as cries for a Cretan success begin to grow.
