Weather postpones Panserraikos vs. Iraklis again
By: Peter Katsiris | January 5th, 2009
A twenty-four hour wait wasn’t enough to allow the scheduled match between Panserraikos and Iraklis at the Serres Stadium to be played out in its second attempt to kickoff. Bad weather led to the postponement of the match on Sunday, and the scheme was the same on Monday afternoon.
With heavy snow consuming the Serres pitch, stadium officials came to an agreement with the officiating squad to reschedule the match for second time. Pushing the fixture to Wednesday evening, the crowd on hand – far less than the original turnout from Sunday – was not as hostile as it was when the first postponement was released a day before.
Sunday’s cancellation sparked fan violence, featuring an altercation between grounds crew and travelling Iraklis supporters with the former firing snowballs into the crowd in its defense.
