Snowball fight in Serres after match cancellation

By: Peter Katsiris | January 5th, 2009

Heavy snow in Serres postponed the scheduled fixture between Iraklis and Panserraikos at the Serres Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with field conditions the main cause for concern for both clubs.

Though the cancellation was reasonable travelling Iraklis supporters didn’t think so as supporters of ‘O Gireos’ clashed with grounds crew and members of Panserraikos FC shortly after stadium officials announced the match had been cancelled.

While supporters in the crowd chanted offensive tunes, and threw traditional objects, the on-field crew responded by whipping a melee of snowballs at the stands.

The fight was eventually ended when Iraklis supporters were asked to leave the stadium ahead of the home crowd. The match has since been rescheduled for Monday afternoon, 15:00 GR.
