Ten Cate: Nobody Told Me About Meeting
By: Chris Paraskevas | January 11th, 2009In cooperation with Goal.com:
There seems to have been a communication breakdown At Panathinaikos…
Panathinaikos manager Henk Ten Cate says he was completely unaware that a meeting had been held between the club’s leaders during which his future was discussed.
The Dutch manager’s role at the club was one matter explored by president Nikos Pateras, major shareholder Giannis Vardinogiannis and Panathenian Unifying Movement (PEK) leader Andreas Vgenopoulos.
Club shareholder Vgenopoulos emerged from the meeting voicing his support for Ten Cate, assuring the former Chelsea and Barcelona assistant two years to work in Athens.
However, following his side’s 3-1 away win over Panathrakikos, the Pana manager spoke about his surprise upon hearing about the discussions.
“There was a good discussion between the major shareholders, of which nobody gave me the slightest indication,” Ten Cate said.
“Panathinaikos is a big club and at big clubs there are issues that extend beyond the result of a football match.”
“I found it strange that people on the street were asking me whether I felt uncomfortable.
“I didn’t understand as it isn’t easy for me to understand the newspapers because of my Greek.”
