Kyrgiakos faces AEK layoff
By: Peter Katsiris | February 21st, 2009
AEK FC has been handed a huge blow with Greece international Sotiris Kyrgiakos going down to injury after his side’s 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their Greek Cup tie with Skoda Xanthi.
Reports indicate the former Eintracht Frankfurt center back has fractured his hand, but the length of his absence is not yet certain. It seems every likely that Kyrgiakos will be among the absentees for AEK’s weekend fixture against Asteras Tripolis, and the replay against Xanthi next week.
Bajevic is boss
After making it clear he was fed up with his player’s performances earlier in the week, Dusan Bajevic’s message was supposed to set off alarm bells in the minds off his players. Unfortunately, this was not the case as issues between players and management.
The Serb was disgruntled by his side’s performance in Xanthi on Wednesday, and forewarned his squad he would not be taking matters lightly if the poor displays continued.
Notably Edinho is in hot water with Bajevic, after the Brazilian stormed off the pitch and to the dressing rooms after being subbed off during the match with Xanthi. It has since been revealed that the club will fine Edinho for his actions.
